Pecan Tree Seedlings, known by their scientific name Carya illinoisnensis, prefer nutrient-rich soil, particularly when they reach nut-producing age. It has a preference towards well-drained, but consistently watered soil. When the tree begins producing nuts, the water needs will increase dramatically to support the complex process.

As a moderately fast grower, you can expect it to add a few feet of height each year until it reaches maturity at about 20 years. It reaches a considerable size at maturity, with a canopy that grows approximately as wide as the tree is tall. The flowers, which are slender hanging catkins, sport a subtle green color that can blend in with the foliage.

When the tree reaches 2-10 years, it will begin producing nuts that are harvestable between the months of October and December.

Landscape Uses & Maintenance Tips for Pecan Trees

Because of the delicious nut this tree produces, it is most often planted for the purpose of human consumption. But, of course we aren't the only ones who love it! Squirrels, deer, and other backyard wildlife enjoy the fallen nuts as a crucial food source when preparing for the cold winter.

While it takes a few years for a young sapling to start producing the beloved nuts, gardeners can enjoy the shade of the growing canopy. Apply a balanced fertilizer late in the Winter to help support optimal growth and nut production. During the dormant season, it is recommended to also prune excess branches to help form a strong, central leader.

Unique Characteristics of Pecan Tree Seedlings

Pecan Tree Seedlings will put out the oblong nuts most often in clusters of 3-6. The nuts first appear as bright green, slowly transitioning to brown as they get closer to harvest. When harvested fresh, the nuts do not look like what you typically see in a grocery store because they are encased in a hard husk that must be cracked open.

Not worth it
Very colorful and my poodle liked the ball. It didn’t last 1 week. Horrible quality and not worth the money. My dog destroyed ball as soon as I turned my back. Would return it if it was in a returnable condition

Great buy
Our dog is so happy about this. He loves chasing a ball. We also love the fact that it is collapsible and only 12 inches. We travel a lot so it’s perfect for that. I’m enclosing a movie. I did about it for Amazon.

Very disappointed
Unfortunately I ended up being very disappointed with this purchase, after about two weeks of use, it just stopped performing. Not sure what happened but it just stopped releasing the ball and I don't know why, it had no flexibility left to it. I'm not doing a very good job of trying to explain why it quit working but suffice it to say, it became useless after a couple of weeks. Broke my neighbors dog's heart, lol.
